This past Wednesday evening Laura from 89th and Broke and I headed over to the beautiful Yerba Buena Perry to join Tasting Table for the launch of Rioja Restaurant Week, a two week engagement from May 13 to May 27 celebrating all things Rioja in NYC and Chicago.

Inside the romantic, dimly lit Yerba Buena Perry we found two full service wine bars pouring wine for scores of thirsty party goers. We were able to choose from quite the variety of wines, so I tasted a handful of different reds and whites. Samples from Yerba Buena Perry's delicious menu were endless as they were not only sitting on the bar, but were being passed around the room. Guests were encouraged to pass the trays from group to group, which created quite the communal experience.

At the event we saw a few familiar faces, including GoaG photographer Sunny Norton and then later Random Night Out photographer Nick McGlynn. Laura, Nick and I chatted for a little while about Nick's new boat, the Seaward. (If you see him, ask him about it. And then check his tumblr for random invites to take it out for a spin.)

I'm thrilled to have been invited to this launch party because Rioja Restaurant Week actually started last year and unfortunately fell under my radar. No more!

I'm proud to tell you that during this special two week event, New Yorkers are invited to explore wines from the iconic Rioja region as part of a wine lunch ($25) or wine dinner ($35) menu. (This is competitive with normal Restaurant Week prices, which never include wine with your meal. Of course, the two weeks aren't truly in competition since they aren't at the same time..)

To take advantage of this delicious deal, diners just need to tell their waiter/waitress they would like the Rioja Restaurant Week menu.
