LOLZ.
Here's charity we can all benefit from, via Paint the Town Red via KMAVerick:
The city didn’t go for Sean Combs’ offer to donate $1 to local charities if they refashioned the New Year’s Eve ball to resemble “the blue stone of Ciroc,” a vodka he promotes. So now[,] he’s offering free cab rides to New Year’s Eve drunks. He will work with the [NYC] Taxi and Limousine Commission to have teams distribute debit cards, good for one taxi fare up to $15, in Times Square that night between 11 PM and 3 AM. Diddy-centric advertisements for the plan are appearing now on taxi backseat TVs. The cards are available only to “adult consumers,” so shitfaced 15-year-olds won’t get a free ride from Diddy. Bibulous grown-ups are encouraged by Combs to celebrate with Ciroc, the “Official Vodka of New Year’s Eve.”
According to Just Jared Jr., people in Chelsea nightclub areas can expect street teams too.
Thank you P Diddy, for a free ride home on New Years Eve!

FREECYCLE NYC: Get free stuff in New York City
Freecycle is a Yahoo group dedicated to uniting people with useable stuff they don't want and people willing to make use of it. So if scavengars in your trash are an unwelcome sight, you can meet someone on your curb that you cherry pick from CL ad like responses.

[When I first found out about Freecycle, I acquired this magazine rack, which is now overflowing with photography magazines]
You can list something you have as an OFFER, or ask for something as a WANT. You'll see a lot of requests for things like computers, cooking tools and childrens clothes, but the offers are usually things like... skipping DVD players. But occasionally there are gems, like free paint, digital cameras and college text books!

Free fresco taco from Taco Bell!
Log on to http://www.drivethrudiet.com/ and click on the taco icon for a coupon — "valid for 7 days from download or until 1 million free taco coupons are redeemed (including online and print coupons), whichever occurs first."
Via NY Daily News, re: Taco Bell's new campaign:
Move over Jared, there’s a new fast-food weight-loss icon in the making.
Say hello to Christine: She lost 54 pounds by ordering off Taco Bell's low-fat “Fresco” menu, according to the chain's new Drive-Thru Diet campaign, ABCNews.com reports.
In a short statement on drivethrudiet.com, Christine attribites her weight loss, which happened over two years, to "choosing Fresco items ... and making other sensible choices."
"These results aren't typical," she adds, "but for me they were fantastic!"
Hmmm... I don't buy it, but I guess it's better than those stupid Mandy Moore adult acne commercials. Christine is the mom-like lady below in the image.
Oh, and Fresco Tacos have fewer than 200 calories apiece!

Postabon and $50 American Express gift card giveaways!
POSTABON, your new Retail-Sale Superman (complete with groupies)
*sponsored love
Remember that killer Zappos free shipping for life sale you missed? Well, that really wasn’t necessary - but it’s ok and you can stop feeling bad. Why? Because Postabon launched last week (yippee!) and their mission is to make sure internet citizens never miss a deal again!
It was recently called by VentureBeat the love child of Foursquare and Groupon (two of my very favorite things) and that name isn’t too far off. By combining Groupon-like sales and deals with an active Foursquare-like local social network, Postabon is poised to become your one-stop shop for all things cheap in NYC.
The site is basically a Google map that users-in-the-know continuously update with “Bons,” aka sales and deals, across New York City. To make sharing easy, users can submit their Bons through Postabon’s Web site, iPhone app, or mobile website which is currently iPhone, Palm Pre, and Droid friendly. Get a deal in email? Easy – log on and submit. Notice a great sale at a small store? Sweet – tap it into your iPhone and hit send.
Loyal, persistent Postabon users (I have dubbed them Postabon groupies) earn “Karma points” as they compete for the top Karma Board spots and accrue followers. To motivate the community to submit deals during the company's pilot, Postabon is offering a $200 weekly raffle for everyone that submits at least one local discount idea! You'd agree with me when I say that's more substantial than a shiny digital Foursquare badge… right? Hah.
For those of you who are like “WHAT THE HELL IS FOURSQUARE AND GROUPON?!” don’t worry about it. According to Postabon O'Flaherty's Ale House has $3 Bud, Bud Light, and Champagne and Diane Von Furstenberg has a 75% off sample sale running. So get on Postabon, start poking around and submit your deals because the recession might be over (FML—I really need to rebrand) but it’s still cool to save money.
GIVEAWAY: Win a $50 Gift Card, sponsored by POSTABON!
I have four $50 America Express gift cards to giveaway to lucky readers! These are exclusive to readers of this blog and in addition to the existing raffle for which you would also be eligible. Entering is easy:
1 mandatory entry: visit Postabon and come back with a URL to a deal you like!
1 additional entry: sign up for Postabon and POST a deal!
1 additional entry: follow + tweet about this giveaway @ricebird and @postabon
2 additional entries: blog about this deal on your website!
Fill out this form to let me know what you’ve done. A winner will be randomly chosen on 12/19!

MY FASHION PLATE: My experience at the event!
Last month I had the pleasure of attending an event thrown by My Fashion Plate and Lancome at the Lancome flagship store on the UWS. I was supposed to have a friend in tow, but she skipped town without telling me (you know who you are!) so I had to fly solo.

Alone, I ate enough cupcakes for two before I had a lovely makeover care of my personally assigned Lancome makeup expert. I was tempted to purchase their Effacernes Waterproof Protective Undereye Concealer and Blush Subtil Shimmer in Apricot but held back because I knew Broke-mas (not to be confused with Skintmas) was coming and my bank account was going to be a little….pathetic. Self indulgence had to wait.
After makeover!
WANT.After I was beautified, I met with the owner of My Fashion Plate, Jessica Mandeville, for a demo of her fantabulous website! If you’re like me, you’ve had serious closet technology envy ever since you saw the movie Clueless. Thanks to My Fashion Plate, YOU CAN HAZ CLUELESS CLOSET! It’s just digital –and of course, FREE!
What you need to do is create an account, take pictures of all your clothes, jewelry and shoes. If photographing all your stuff is not likely to happen, you can import pictures of your stuff if it lives online. For example, if you bought/own this GUESS Annabelle Shirt Dress
Besides categorizing all your clothes for you, you can put together outfits using their special outfit creating tools:
My Wardrobe – Virtual closet that enables members to clearly view their wardrobe and accessories and access them from anywhere
Design Studio – Mix-and-match pieces to create outfits for yourself or your friends (imagine Alicia Silverstone’s spinning wardrobe!)
My Outfits – A catalogue of your outfits
Style Calendar – Plan and organize outfits for upcoming events and remember what you have worn in the past (for those people with OCD outfit planning issues)
My Suitcase – Learn how to pack an effective suitcase
My Budget – Manage and organize fashion expenses
My Clippings – Collect fashion articles, items, outfits and videos you have found along the way Wish List – Keep a virtual list of must-haves
If you feel inept at putting together an outfit, no fear! My Fashion Plate has professional fashion consultants ready to assess your wardrobe and offer personalized advice. Sounds expensive, right? It’s actually quite cheap (and now you can get New York City advice even if you live in Little Rock, Arkansas).
Prices:
Wardrobe Assessment, $0.46 per item. Get your wardrobe in shape! Your stylist will suggest what to keep and what to throw.
Item or Outfit Assessment, $2.99 per assessment. Get feedback on an item or outfit.
Look Book, $3.99 per look. Your Stylist to put together a look from your wardrobe.
Personal Shopper, $4.99 per item; $14.99 per outfit. The Stylist to shop around for items or outfits for you.
I actually met one of their fashion consultants at the event – and he was sweeter than the cupcakes and champagne they served me.
Click here to check out My Fashion Plate and get your wardrobe online!
** I’d also like to give a shout out to the products I received in my gift bag from the event! **
· HipUndies.com – a sample of their hot new product, Undiewash (mine was coconut scented!)
· The makers of Insolia® - clear weight shifting shoe inserts
· Je’Marie PurseHook & Accessories – a handbag accessory (I LURVE this)
· Balance Water – a premium wellness water
· Inodorous – a product that helps keep your clothes always smelling fresh and never like the night before
· Lancôme’s newest youth activating concentrate, Génifique (this was actually missing - I got some eye gel mask instead – SOB)
· A Stylish My Fashion Plate tank (fits perfectly!)
5th Avenue Chocolatiere: $15 for $30 worth of chocolate!
Chocolates are the PERFECT holiday gift - everyone loves chocolate. Groupon has a deal today where you can get $30 worth of chocolates from 5th Avenue Chocolatiere for only $15!
I highly recommend purchasing this Groupon then heading down to the store and buying gifts for your parents, parents in laws and chocolate loving friends! Also ideal for giving to someone you don't know that well...
Today's Groupon gives you the keys to the chocolate kingdom: $30 worth of chocolates galore from 5th Avenue Chocolatiere. Use your Groupon at either the Midtown East or Flatiron location. Carrying homemade chocolates in all forms, including seasonal rabbit shapes and stealth chococopter, this 34-year-old family-owned New York shop is capable of quieting your noisy sweet tooth with an intoxicating chocolaty secret recipe.

About The Science of Happiness: 10 Principles for Manifesting Your Divine Nature
Reveals the 10 essential principles that can serve as a compass for a spiritual life
• Presents the foundational teachings of the Happy Science spiritual movement (more than 10 million members worldwide)
• Offers revelations from past spiritual leaders, including Jesus, Buddha, and Moses
• Includes information on the ancient continents of Mu and Atlantis and the structure of the spirit world
In 1981 Ryuho Okawa began receiving revelations from the spirits of Nikko (1246-1333) and Nichirien (1222-1282), who had been outstanding Buddhist teachers during their lives. Soon he began receiving revelations from Buddha, Jesus Christ, Moses, and Confucius as well as spiritual messages from prominent figures such as Socrates, Isaac Newton, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Helen Keller, and Florence Nightingale. In 1985 he began publishing some of these revelations in Japan. A year later he established the spiritual movement Happy Science (Kofuku-no-Kagaku) to help people discover their true potential, to educate them to think and act in a spiritual way, and to help create an ideal world on Earth.
The Science of Happiness presents Master Okawa’s 10 essential principles that can serve as a compass for a spiritual life: Happiness, Love, the Mind, Enlightenment, Progress, Wisdom, Utopia, Salvation, Reflection, and Prayer. Master Okawa shows how following these principles can bring happiness and spiritual growth not only to ourselves but to all those around us. He provides the tools necessary to transform one’s inner world to be receptive to true happiness and enlightenment--and to find one’s true purpose in life. He also reveals other extraordinary spiritual truths, such as the secrets of the ancient continents of Mu and Atlantis and the structure of the spirit world.
GUEST BLOGGER: Alan recommends renting two movies for $1 at Blockbuster
Today Alan says:
I love buying pre-owned DVDs and BluRays at Blockbuster. Other people like to rent movies though. Either at Blockbuster or RedBox, the $1 red kiosk renter. Basically, snag a movie for $1, return it when you’re done. No late fees.
Blockbuster, in what CrunchGear is saying is a bid to stay relevant, is rolling out similar kiosks in Duane Reades in NYC over the next few weeks. Their kiosk, Blockbuster Express, does the same deal too—movie for a buck.
If that’s still too expensive for you, Mr. Stingy, you can now get TWO DVDs for a buck. Use the coupon code GW9TB1 (thanks Dealnews!)
Oh, and offer ends December 8.

ZAPPOS: Free OVERNIGHT Shipping for Life, today only
More guest blogger-ness from Alan:
Shoes are one of the things I hesitate to buy online… mostly because I constantly forget my shoe size. But I know many people swear by Zappos.com, the online shoe store.
One of the reasons people love Zappos is because of its free standard shipping anytime. They also have a VIP program that offers overnight shipping—for a cost. Today only, though, you can sign up for that program for free and have it FOR LIFE. (Katharine's note: OMG! FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING FOR LIFE!!!!)
Details are here. You don’t have to be an existing customer to get that privilege. Just make sure you sign up by midnight PST today!
