You may have missed this today, but you've got Friday!

A friend of mine and I braved the crowds today and got our free custom fitted Thomas Pink white collared shirts. So excited! They will be fedexed to our doorsteps within ten days.

After we braved the line, we met with one of six tailors who measured us and wrote down our shirt preference. Men choose from three styles: classic, slim fit and evening. Women choose from two styles: classic and slim fit. My friend and I went for slimfit because it would look awesome tucked into a highwaisted skirt. (The classic would be great for everyday wear, including with jeans.)

Starting at 8am, line up and get your free fitted white shirt on Friday! Also, the cast members are supposed to make an appearance....

I think it's worth it. I mean, a $180 shirt for free? C'mon. Thanks USA Network! Hopefully White Collar doesn't suck.

Getting measured. Cute pink measuring tape, huh?

A display of people's choices.

The flier in case you need it again.

I saw this originally on the Skint and I'm officially FREAKING THE FUCK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a great day to be a New Yorker! Check this out:

USA Network proudly presents the “WHITE COLLAR Shirt Bar,” a pop-up experience offering men and women complimentary custom fitted shirts courtesy of Thomas Pink, open to the public Thursday, October 22 from 10 AM to 6 PM and Friday, October 23 from 8 AM to 6 PM. In addition to custom shirt fittings, the “WHITE COLLAR Shirt Bar” will also feature lounges, free shoeshine and complimentary coffee stations.

On the morning of Friday, October 23, join stars from the cast of WHITE COLLAR – Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen – to celebrate the launch of USA’s new series at this extraordinary activity.

That's right - BOGO entrees through Oct 27, in NYC only at TGI Fridays!

It's a good time for buy ones get ones this week - did you see the BOGO special at Lasagna Ristorante?

FRUTOBER UPDATE: Oct 20 Status

Posted by ricebird |

Since my mother periodically sends me emails asking if I'm dead because I'm starving, I thought it was about time for a Frutober update.

All in all, the program is coming along nicely. Lets visit the hard stats everyone wants to know: HOW MUCH HAVE I SPENT?

Right now, I've spent a total of $40.26. We can separate that into a few clear buckets.

MCDONALDS
--A couple nights I've been starving after a night of freeloading off various open bars and events with friends. Where the hell
does one eat on a frugal budget? At Fatty McFatterson, aka McDonalds, of course.

I've had two dinners there and spent a total of $7.25 on two Happy Meals. They did make me happy, in case you were wondering.

STILES FARMERS MARKET (and other fruit/veggie stands)
--Fresh fruit, veggies, etc. have been the bulk of my spending. I've spent $15.83 in the category. I love me some lettuce.

DRINKS (nonalcoholic)
--After a night of free drinking, one gets a little groggy in the morning. I've spent $7.25 on bottled beverages not because I really wanted to, but because it was the right thing to do.

OTHER
--We had a bake sale in the office so I spent $1 on something to eat. Yay.

Now, since I hate posts without images, here's some pictures of three meals I've eaten this month and their back story.

Bhavana made me this one day as a surprise. Like my mother, she fears I'm going to starve. It's lentils with potatoes and green beans. Spicy delishness. Also extremely convienent since I forgot to pack a lunch that day and I really didn't want to survive off the free tortilla chips someone gave me a few weeks ago.

I had some lettuce that was threatening to go bad, so I created this weird but delish salad. The usual salad suspects (onion, carrots, etc) were not in stock, so I threw together a boiled egg, celery, couscous and garlic with the greenleaf lettuce, and topped it with oil and balsamic vinegar.

This is a free dinner I snagged from a meeting leftovers. Not sure what the meeting was, but I made out like a freaking bandit. Thank you, faceless client and account team!
10 MORE DAYS TO GO! I wonder if I'll spend the full $75?

Afraid of the crowd at Cafe Noir's free food and drink event tonight from 6-8pm? Feeling more...elite and cultural?

Tonight, Sax signs copies of his book at Ben's Kosher Delicatessen (209 West 38th Street) at 7:30PM and guests will be treated to a free pastrami sandwich on rye, salami, and pickles."

Bring Your Mug to Work Day was yesterday!

Did you bring your mug to work?

No?

Want a mug to LEAVE at work?

Cool - I've got one for you! Details below.

But first, this lovely message from International Delight:

Nowadays, people are seeking the perfect coffeehouse cup of coffee without the cost. In fact, according to a recent survey of more than 500 people commissioned by International Delight and conducted by Braun Research, 63 percent of American coffee drinkers have made a conscious effort to brew at home due to the state of the economy (or in my case, skip Starbucks and crack open the FLAVIA machine in the office. Free coffee at work!).

However, cutting costs doesn't have to mean giving up your favorite coffeehouse concoction. To help people get the same gourmet flavor at home, International Delight is introducing CoffeeHouse Inspirations. Now, coffee-lovers can craft the perfect cup of coffee at home without skimping on taste or flavor. The new line is available in the three most popular coffeehouse flavors.

--Caramel Macchiato: Bold caramel flavor with notes of sweet cream (I tasted this and it was amazing!)
--White Chocolate Mocha: Rich white chocolate flavor in a luscious creamy blend
--Vanilla Latte: A decadent infusion of sweet vanilla flavor

When it comes to the environment, according to a survey conducted by Kelton Research, 67 percent of consumers who frequent coffee shops admit to discarding their used paper cups into a regular trash can – which contributes to a whopping 28 billion cups (100 million pounds of paper) every year that end up in landfills.

WIN A COFFEE PACK!
That’s why International Delight celebrated “Take Your Mug to Work Day” on October 15. Rather than stopping at your favorite coffee shop, we encourage you to brew your cup of joe at home or work – and enjoy it in a reusable mug or cup. Upload a photo of your “mug shot” on http://www.internationaldelight.com/ to enter to win a coffee prize pack.

WIN A NYC RECESSION DIARY SWAG BAG!
Details on this coming soon! Included in the SWAG BAG will be one of International Delight's coffee mugs! Sa-weeeeet!

You know you want this stuff! FYI, International Delight is a client of my PR agency.

What oh what does one do on a Sunday evening, the beginning of October? Attend a “rollicking” gala, of course!

Last night the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, New York City’s first ever multi-day event celebrating the history, contemporary culture, and artful craft of the cocktail, concluded their preview weekend with a Sunday Night Spectacular at the New York Public Library’s majestic Astor Hall.

I dusted off my trusty black dress, threw on red heels and made my way over. Outside I met the lovely Sarah from New New Yorkers –my “hot date” for the evening.

As we pondered the details it took to put this gala together, we sipped cocktails from the seemingly endless different stations set up scavenger hunt-style across the library. We were quite impressed by the number of people who came out, and even more impressed by how nearly everyone dressed like a 1920's flapper or gangster. We apparently, and somewhat regrettably, missed that memo. So we drank more! Har, Har.

(To name all the sponsors we drank from is a mouth full, but here they are: Absolut, Bacardi, Bombay, Bulleit Bourbon, Crop Organic Vodka, Don Q Rum, Grand Marnier, Hendrick’s Gin, Ketel One Vodka, Maker’s Mark, Michter’s Rye, Solerno, Tanqueray London Dry, Tanqueray No. TEN, Tequila Don Julio, and Zacapa Rum.)

The food (oh, Frutober! Salvation for at least one night) was outstanding. Here I posed with a roasted pig. A couple was slicing it open and offered to let me pose with the knife before they cut in too deep. Poor, delicious piggy.

To rival the pig, turkey drumsticks were on hand. A moment after I took this picture, I saw a gentleman grab one up and start noshing. As one would imagine, he looked rather unattractive. Good thing he had a date.

And over to the side was….the oyster bar. OMFG. I think I swallowed a little bit of shell but it was worth it. Divine.

Here I’m posed with an actor serving Russian fruity cocktails. When I took this picture, I borrowed someone's cocktail because there weren't any others made yet. After the photo was snapped, he promptly snatched it back. And by snatch, I mean WOOSHH SNATCH!! They were that good, people.

I’ve never been to Astor Hall before, and it was quite majestic, to say the least. Marble, high ceilings, old solid oak doors…it felt like a palace. This is the view from the second floor. The music was provided by Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks. The dancing and "Circle of Trust" was provided by drunk patrons.

This lemony concoction was one of our favorites! Tart and Tart. Like a lemon drop!

Lastly, here’s a picture of Sarah from New New Yorkers , Maridel Reyes, the everywhere editor at Vital Juice, and me. We had a lovely time.

Sad you didn’t make it? Hold up! This was just the preview. The full-on Manhattan Cocktail Classic happens in May 2010! Ready, set…wait!

More about the Manhattan Cocktail Classic:
Part festival, part fête, part conference, part cocktail party, the Manhattan Cocktail Classic brings together the unparalleled talents and opportunities of the bars, bartenders, and restaurants of our great city for two days of activities, both educational and celebratory in nature, championing the common ideals of authenticity, equality, sustainability, service, and pleasure.

FRUTOBER HAS BEGUN.

As many of you deduced from common sense, yesterday was my first day on the Frutober plan. To prep, I cleaned out my cupboards, fridge and freezer to see what delicious bounty I'll be feasting on this month.

First there was the freezer! I had some frozen hamburger, chicken, homemade soup, a variety of breads and that nasty looking Krasdale spinach. That might still be left over in November.

Next was the cupboards. Pasta, tuna, lentils and ramen! Not bad. Those breadcrumbs might get slightly abused.

The refridgerator contents! Hummus, feta cheese and 11 eggs are the highlights (does anyone else think that pointy egg is weird? Kinda freaking me out.) My roommate gave me some english muffins so that was sweet of her (Oh, Eva and her irrational fear of mold)!

All the cans. Chickpea and olives bathed in turkey gravy, anyone?

I thought you'd like to see my dinner last night. Italian style tuna fish sandwich with carrots and hummus. Yummmm.

And here's the lunch I made for today. I used up my shredded cheese, the last bit of tomato sauce from this jar and one of the pizza crusts from the freezer. I also grabbed the rest of the baby carrots.

Tonight I'm gonna go shopping for fresh vegetables and fruits. What ooooo what will I buy?!

AND HOW MUCH WILL I SPEND?

Stay tuned, Frutober followers.

Until then, stay frassy! (frugal and classy)
